The Allure of Discipline: A Case Study with Lara Vanderbilt
Show Notes

Lara Vanderbilt has existed for most of her life in spaces that valued, above all else, discipline. She started out in synchronized swimming, followed by the Coast Guard Academy, and then eventually to University of Michigan where she is a chemical engineer and varsity rower for one of the best rowing programs in the country.

In our third episode about discipline, Lara explores with Mallory and Makena how growing up in primarily disciplined environments shaped her identity and personality. She talks about the challenges of transitioning out of the Coast Guard Academy, how she is relearning who she is after spending so many years with a structured and prescribed life, and how she believes discipline can be incredibly helpful, but sometimes destructive.

Listen to our first two episodes on discipline to gain even more insight into how we are working to redefine what discipline means in our society. By the end of the month, we hope you are able to create a definition of discipline that works for you and aligns with your values.
